The Incarceration System

After working in the prison system, facilitating relationship classes; I came across what I called “‘The Forgotten Souls”.    This was the group of individuals who had committed a crime  and in most cases the crime resulted in someone being killed.  A life was taken, I understand that, but to have an individual who was at the time only 15 – 19 years of age (some younger) to spend life in prison WITHOUT the possibly of parole, is  not the answer to correct the wrong.

Those are just my thoughts….

I will continue in much greater detail at a later date.

I wonder if you would think the same way if the person the young punk killed was one of your family members( your child, mother, father, or brother). I know they are only 15-19, but they should know right from wrong, and taking someone live is wrong and a sin. If they are locked up for 20years which is life. What are they to do? When they get out. That is why life is full of choices.

    Hey Andrea,

Yes, life is full of choices. However, at some point you have to ‘choose to live life’, even after something so, heartbreaking as the senseless death of a loved one. Life goes on. And, locking up a teenage for life will not bring my family memeber back and in the long run will not make me feel any better. What if your teenage child had killed someone? Do you think they should have to spend the rest of their life in prison?
